Tampa

Tampa is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida. It is known for its beaches, waterways and its view of the bay. Tampa has capitalized on this with a 2.6 mile Riverwalk that stretches along the Hillsborough River. Much like San Antonio’s Riverwalk, Tampa’s Riverwalk is lined with parks, public art, entertainment venues and restaurants.

Like Miami, Tampa is a cultural mecca known for Latin and Cuban heritage. Its architecture is consistent with its heritage with charming brick streets and colorful buildings. The city doesn’t really sleep, because the it becomes alive at night with bars, lounges and night clubs that rival the best. Tampa is also well know for its cigar-making–another tie to its Cuban heritage.

Some of the best beaches in Florida are nearby, such as Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach, both of which are known for their white powdery beaches. The water is clear, and if you find yourself in Tampa take the drive to Fort Desoto Park Beach, where you will find 4 miles of undeveloped beaches that extend 100 yards into the Gulf.

If you are a sports enthusiast, you will already know about Tampa being home to the Buccaneers, Lightening and Tampa Bay Rays. If you can get tickets, attending any of these professional team games will be worth your while.

Finally, Tampa offers family-friendly attractions such as the Florida Aquarium, Busch Gardens, and many museums and art galleries. Much like Miami, restaurants lean toward their cultural heritage in flavors that pop. Due to Florida’s agricultural industry, fresh ingredients abound and farm-to-table restaurants use these ingredients well.
